There
are three questions every normal human being must be able to answer in life.
The answers will define and establish his purposes.
The
answers will either bring endless joy or sorrow, limitless or no opportunities
and an eventful or boring life – and these questions are centred on three i’s
viz - identity, importance and influence questions.
Identity
Question
--- Who am I?
Every
normal human being needs to know who he is (apart from the name he answers or
the profession he engages) and that is his true
identity.
He
must be able to answer without blinking question about his identity.
Identity
question is beyond career or charisma – it is an embedded character that
reveals ones personality in the dark – even when nobody is watching.
Take
Jacob in the Bible as a case study. He had everything going for him. The Lord
told his mom categorically, before he was ever
born, that he would enjoy unending favour from Him but Jacob, instead of
walking in God’s plan of favour for his life, opted for manipulation;
defrauding and deceiving others to achieve his own end – and that act turned
him into a fugitive, a fraudster and con-artist until the Lord opened his eyes
and said to him. “Your name shall be called Israel!”
My
question is, “What is your identity?”
Question of Importance
--- Do
I matter?
Every
human being loves being celebrated and appreciated for every of his contributions
– and you aren’t an exception.
In
my tribe, Yoruba, appreciation is an important factor and in my country,
Nigeria, being celebrated is like a goal every citizen strives for. I may not
have been where you are but I have this belief that everybody loves to be
treated like a dignitary.
Be
you a cleaner, office assistant, roadside seller, taxi-driver, bus-conductor,
teacher, nanny and even gardeners – for as long as you are adding values, you
are important.
Your
importance will always be questioned or despised if you don’t realize that your
value goes beyond what you do to earn a living. Your importance is all about you … it is who
you are.
Do you matter?
Question of Influence
--- What
is my place?
There
is a particular place or position where you desire or believe you can function
effectively if given the opportunity – and most people ask this question often,
‘What is my place in life?’.
It
is a general belief that once ones place is located, he’ll discover the people he
is to influence.
Though,
this might be a tough task but it is expedient for one to be fully engaged
wherever, with whatever he is doing.
Think
of Joseph for example; the guy had sweet dreams that made his brethren hated
him and got him into slavery in a foreign land. His faithfulness, stance and
stands also got him into jail in the foreign land but the guy kept his cool,
serving wherever he found himself and in God’s time, he got his rightful place
in the palace as a Prime Minister – but all these wouldn’t have been possible
if he hadn’t dedicated himself to diligence in several other challenging and
odd places he had been before the palace vacancy was announced.
How
influential are you … how much are you now
contributing to the development of others in your present position?
Norman
Vincent Peale once said. “If you can fix
your man, you can fix your world.”
If
you can honestly answer the three questions, you have discovered your purpose
for living and if you keep yourself on track; your vision will guide your
mission – and you will soon be announced at the top.
