Basic Facts about Olubadans and their Reign


1. Aare Latoosa was the first Muslim ruler of the city ; he became a muslim because he had no kids , this was after the Oloro worshippers had taken him to Igbo Oro twice.  And he was blessed immediately after becoming a Muslim.

2. The youngest Olubadan was Ọba Yesufu Kobiowu. He was 55 years old , but spent only six months on the throne.

3. The oldest Olubadan was Ọba Oloyede Aṣanikẹ who died aged 104 after spending 10 years on the throne.

4. The most handsome Olubadan was Oba Abass Alẹṣinlọyẹ, who spent 16 years on the throne.

5. The first Christian Olubadan was Ọba IB Akinyẹle (1955- 1964)  who spent nine years on the throne and refused to allow the Ọpa Ogun stay inside the palace. His reign was also largely peaceful.  He was also the President of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), even while Prophet Ayọ Babalọla was alive.

6. The first educated Olubadan was Ọba Isaac Babalọla Akinyẹle (1955-1964)

7. The shortest reigning Olubadan was Ọba Alli Iwo who spent a little over a month on the throne.

8. The most educated Olubadan was *Oba Mohood Lekan Balogun*, he has a PhD.

9. The politically exposed Olubadans were Ọba Ọdẹtayọ Akinbiyi (1977-1982). Who was House of Assembly member, House of Reps member and a district judge in the 50s. Ọba Ọlakulẹyin was House of Reps member in 1992. Ọba Lekan Balogun was a senator in 1999. Ọba Rashidi Ladọja was a senator in 1992 and governor in 2003

10. The first governor who will become Olubadan is Ọba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

11. Ọba Oloyede Aṣanikẹ would also qualify as the most humorous Olubadan of all time; many of his jokes are legendary.

12. Five Olubadans have spent less than one year in office, they include Ọbas Akere, Oyetunde, Ali Iwo, Kobiowu and Ọlakulẹyin.
